ABOUT

Artist Statement

Art is not just a profession or a pastime for me; it is a blessing and a necessity—a means of survival, reflection, and connection. Through my art, I process my experiences, dreams, and the beauty of the world, transforming these into something tangible to share with others.

My artistic process often begins with nature. I am deeply inspired by the flora and fauna around me, and I feel a powerful urge to capture that beauty and share it with others. I’m particularly drawn to exploring the symbolism of plants, as they represent the cycles of human life—growth, death, and renewal. My work also often features the female form, reflecting both personal and universal themes of transformation and identity. As I change, so too does my art, evolving in with my life experiences.

I grew up in a home where art was a daily practice, thanks to my father, who has been painting his entire life. He taught me that creating art is not a choice but a calling, something essential to who you are. That belief carried me through my education, starting with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Over the years, I’ve lived in many countries, mastering Spanish and Portuguese and experiences to support my passion for art.  Immersing myself in local art scenes to collaborate and learn from others in new environments.  Eventually, I returned to Northern California and became a teacher of Spanish and Fine Arts, while continuing to create and exhibit my work.

Today, I am on a new journey as a mother of two, and I feel incredibly fortunate to balance my art practice with family life. I currently reside in my hometown of Chico, California, with my wonderful husband and children. My home studio is where I continue to create, constantly inspired by the beauty and energy of life around me.

Sustainability is at the core of my practice. I am committed to reducing my environmental footprint by using recycled materials wherever possible. Some of my works are created on canvases repurposed from those discarded by others, and I often use leftover house paints and acrylics. By embracing sustainability, I hope to contribute to a more conscious way of creating art while still producing pieces that carry deep personal and universal meaning.
